Club Story

The Westlake Athletic Club opened in 1974 as the Westlake Tennis & Swim Club, and while the name has changed over the years, the heart has not.

Our offering forms the pillars for health, longevity, community, and connection. With tennis courts for social and competitive play, pickleball courts–established in 2019–to host a new type of competition, an outdoor Olympic pool, and fully equipped fitness spaces– the Club is designed to meet all of our Members' needs, and our team is ready to support them.

With community and private events held court-side and at the Pavilion, we are a space where competitors become teammates and neighbors become friends. Through expert instruction, thoughtful programming, and a culture of motivation, we inspire every Member to show up, push forward, and become their best self.

The Club is more than a facility, it's a way of life.

Local Ownership

Mike James, CEO, Guernsey Holdings

Mike acquired Westlake Athletic Club in February 2025 with a clear vision: to honor the Club’s longstanding role in the community while investing thoughtfully in its future. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Guernsey Holdings, Mike brings extensive experience in leadership, business growth, and long-term investment to his ownership of the Club.

His approach reflects a commitment to elevating the Member experience, strengthening the Club’s offerings, and preserving the welcoming sense of connection that has defined WAC for generations. Since the acquisition, all 19 tennis and pickleball courts have been repainted and resurfaced, and the Pavilion has been introduced as a new social gathering space near the pickleball courts. Additional improvements have been made throughout the property and behind the scenes, with continued investments planned across the Club’s facilities, programs, and operations.

Each enhancement is guided by a long-term commitment to the Members and the community the Club serves. By pairing thoughtful investment with respect for the Club’s history and character, Mike’s vision is to ensure Westlake Athletic Club continues to evolve while remaining a place where Members come together through fitness, recreation, and genuine connection.
